6.5 oz – 220 gsm garment are the intrinsic FR properties that were tested to be compliant with EN340 : 2003, EN13688 : 2013, EN 11612 : 2015 A1 B1 C1 F1 & EN 1149-5 : 2008 Tested ASTM F1959 NFPA70E & Certified ATPV 9.0 Class 2
Normal Fire Retardant Cotton garments that are treated with chemicals lose their efficacy after 25 washes as the chemical gets washed out. With the introduction of a proprietary cotton blended yarn to improve ATP value it still passed A1 B1 C1 and F1 after 25 washes and delivered a higher 9.0 CE CAT2 ATP rating; much higher than 4.5 oz pure Aramid which normally qualifies only as CAT 1 (ATPV 4.5). Cotton garments have a much higher ATP (Arc Thermal Protection) factor than synthetic fabrics.
The challenge therefore was to introduce cotton without chemical treatment so that it remains intrinsically safe after even 25 washes. Due to the cotton content our fabric provides roughly double the safety protection for Electrical workers in the event of an Arc Flash which at 19,500ºC has a higher temperature than the Sun. The introduction of cotton makes the wicking and breathing of this heavier 6.5 oz garment much better than 100% synthetic Aramid while delivering the same or better FR safety. Many Aramid garments do not pass F1.
Our fabric is designed to provide a very high degree of skin comfort with a silken feel compared to the rough cardboard feel of Aramid. Additionally we have used very high quality neon dyes to make the garment day glo which is important in higher latitudes in winter.
The garment also has FR reflective tape of high quality and YKK Brass zips.
This garment is tested to the strictest standards and Certified to EN 340 : 2003, EN 13688 : 2013, EN 1149-5 : 2008, EN 11612 : 2015, ASTM F1959
